Don't be a Waster - Reduce, Reuse, Respect launched in January 2017 and the campaign has achieved to significant successes.
January - litter
40 members of the public joined the social media campaign #1PieceofRubbish
The Bin it for Good litter campaign launched which saw litter bins transformed into charity collection pots in Gowthorpe, Selby. The 39% reduction in litter on the streets allowed us to make a £300 donation to Asthma UK.
February - food waste
A continued litter reduction of 34% in the Bin it for Good campaign saw Macmillan Cancer Care received £300.
More than 600 people attended food waste roadshows and cookery demonstrations.
March - fly tipping
The public backs our competition to choose the final charity to benefit from Bin it for Good - with more than 500 votes to choose St Leonard's Hospice as the local charity to benefit from the scheme.
'Live tweeting' our fly tipping incidents as staff investigate them attracts 34,000 engagements on social media.
We have a reduction in fly tipping incidents at hot spots due to new mobile CCTV equipment and signage.
There's a positive reaction to the news of our innovative clay faces that will be installed at fly tipping hot spots. The clay faces are produced in conjunction with a local arts charity.
April - Make do and Mend
Figures come in for the end of the Bin it for Good campaign - and there's been an average litter reduction over three months of 32%.
Local newspaper helps promote reuse organisations.
May - Green waste
Positive media coverage as we reach 100,000 tonnes of green waste collected through our kerbside collections. 25 entries to our compost competition.
June - Donate Don't Dump
100 shoppers visit our Market Place pop up shop to promote local reuse organisations. We recreated three visually striking 'rooms' to showcase the range of good quality second-hand furniture available from local charity shops.
Installation of the clay faces by our parish councils receives widespread media coverage as the story is picked up by the BBC.
July - Dog Fouling
Over 100 dogs and their owners attend four free Dogs Trust events that take place across the district to encourage responsible dog ownerships, give away free dog poo bags and offer free healthchecks and microchipping.
Sixty dog owners sign up to the Paws and Pick it Up pledge to be responsible dog owners.
Successful Green Dog Walker scheme launches in partnership with Riccall Parish Council, with immediate requests from both residents and other parish councils for it to be rolled up across the district. Fifty ribbons are snapped up and we struggle to keep up with demand and supply the ribbons to dog owners who wish to be positively identified as responsible, carrying spare dog poo bags and that they'll report dog owners who don't pick up after their pet to us.
New glow in the dark stickers launched for properties adjacent to footpaths where fouling is a problem. Seventeen parish councils back the stickers and the campaign as these are rolled out across the district.
A reduction in dog fouling complaints is achieved - with just 17 complaints received April - Aug 17 compared to 28 in the same period the previous year.
Voting begins on our Facebook page to find the furry face of our anti-dog fouling campaign.
August - Environmental crime
Local media picks up news of our glow in the dark stickers, and there's widespread coverage by the regional papers and local radio stations.
September - the Big Clean Up
Litter picks take place in all three of our major towns as senior managers from the Council join local businesses and journalists who have supported the campaign on an Abbot's Road litter pick.
Winning 'furry face' of the anti-dog fouling part of the campaign, Paws and Pick it up, is announced as Lola who receives major local newspaper coverage. There have been more than 2,400 votes cast throughout the competition which is a fantastic level of engagement.
October - What's in your bin?
Our Facebook A to Z of waste disposal reaches more than 7,000 people. The A to Z is picked up by Ryedale District Council who run a similar campaign.
November - Be a Good neighbour
Fifty advocates and campaign supporters attend a special thank you lunch to celebrate the success of the campaign and to thank them for their contributions. Attendees include a number of local community litter pickers.
We announce the Paws and Pick it Up charity calendar is going on sale and will raise money for the district's stray dogs.
December - Recycling
Local primary school children sing a specially adapted 12 Doggie Days of Christmas song to help promote the Paws and Pick it Up charity calendar - and the video is view 1.6 thousand times on our Facebook page and receives 2,309 impressions on Twitter.
Our video of our refuse and waste collector singing We Wish You a Merry Christmas is a huge hit on social media with 6.4 thousand views and 11,663 impressions on Twitter - and it is retweeted by Allison Ogden-Newt, CEO of Keep Britain Tidy, sporting heroes Yorkshire Rows, the Cabinet Office and 'liked' by TV presenter Julia Bradbury.
