This object was voted for by visitors to the Selby Treasures Exhibition, 2020. Visitors were provided with a selection of 18 contemporary objects and asked to choose which three they would select for a local museum collection of the future. The Wetherell’s bag was the most popular item followed by a mobile phone and map of Selby.
Charles Edwin Wetherell opened his first drapers shop in 1898 on New Street. The store moved to its current location on The Crescent in 1906 and is still managed by the Wetherell family.
