Every Selby District Council property should be clean and in a good state of repair when you move in in accordance with our Lettable Standard. The Lettable Standard sets the benchmark as to what to expect when you rent a Selby District Council property and was agreed in consultation with our Tenant and Leaseholders Scrutiny Panel.
To end your tenancy, you will need to complete a notice to quit (termination form). You must give at least four weeks written notice before you want to leave the property, with the exception of tenants going into care or transferring to partners landlord of North Yorkshire Home Choice, who are only required to give 1 weeks written notice. This "notice" time must end on a Sunday and you must return your keys before 12 o’clock midday on the next day (Monday).
Please note, associated and participating landlords require 4 weeks notice period.
Moving Out Standard
Alongside having a Lettable standard, which sets out what a new tenant can expect when they move into one of our properties, Selby District Council has a Moving Out Standard.
We want our homes to be safe, secure, clean and in good condition. The Moving Out standard has been agreed by the Tenant and Leaseholder Scrutiny Panel and staff. It is a list of all the things we need you to do to help us get the property ready for the next tenant.
Under the terms of your tenancy you must clear ALL personal belongings and rubbish from your property and garden. Make sure you check the loft, cupboards, shed, under the stairs and garden. If you don’t want it, don’t just leave it or we’ll charge you for clearing it.
Have a good clean up, especially in the bathroom and kitchen which get the most wear and tear. Leave it clean and how you would like to find it. In doing this you are helping another family move into their home as quickly as possible.
Make sure your garden/yard is well maintained and left tidy with any trees or hedges pruned and grass cut
If you have broken or damaged anything, you will need to repair it yourself. If we have to carry out the repair after you have moved out we will charge you for it.
Unauthorised DIY must be put back to its original condition. You may only leave behind things we have agreed at your pre-termination visit. Any charges incurred may prevent you from being rehoused in future.
