Telegram, Pen and Invite 1935

“This was the commemorative pen that my mother-in-law used to send the first telegram from the new Selby Post Office to Prince Edward in 1935.”

As part of the celebrations for King George’s Golden Jubilee the 1885 sixpenny telegram was reintroduced. The number of words was reduced from nine to six. Local dignitaries were invited to send the first telegram at the new rate to the Prince of Wales.
