All street lighting columns are inspected once every two years. During the inspection the lights are checked for correct operation, electrical safety, structural safety and any minor defects are repaired. In addition, all lamps are renewed in order to reduce the number of defects over the subsequent two years.
Report a problem with a street light
North Yorkshire County Council is responsible for maintaining the majority of street lights in North Yorkshire, identifiable by a number painted in black on a yellow background on the lamp post. You can report a problem with road lighting via the North Yorkshire County Council website.
