Selby District Residents’ Engagement Festival is back, with a number of offers, discounts and special experiences available for one weekend only.
Residents of Selby District are encouraged to be local tourists for the weekend of 9th & 10th April 2022, with a number of offers, special experiences, activities and events available for residents to enjoy.
Organised by Selby District Council’s Culture and Visitor Economy Team, the ‘Get To Know Your Own Heart’ festival is all about showcasing the varied and quality offer available across the whole of the district and encouraging residents to explore.
It’s a weekend to celebrate and explore the district’s best kept secrets and hidden gems. Attractions and businesses from across Selby District will be opening their doors to residents with discounts, offers, special events, guided tours, family entertainment & more. It will be a great time for residents to discover what the district has to offer as a destination.
The festival, aimed at boosting the visitor economy before the summer season and showcasing everything there is to offer across the district, is running for its second year.
Janet Waggott, Chief Executive of Selby District Council, said:
“The ‘Get To Know Your Own Heart’ festival proved really popular last year and we’re really pleased to offer it again this year. It is a fantastic opportunity for our residents to explore some of the district's best kept secrets and hidden gems, to re-discover some of their favourite places, or even discover places they might not have known about before.”
“We want residents to experience the heritage, attractions and activities that Selby District has to offer and feel proud to call it their home. There are some fantastic offers and experiences available over the weekend, including special tower tours at Selby Abbey, guided walks, a family event commemorating the Battle of Towton, an open weekend at Sherburn Aero Club, and a chance to sample some of our locally produced food, with offers and discounts at a number of our food and drink places.”
“I would really encourage our residents to spend time in our district, ‘Get To Know Your Own Heart’ and really discover what we have to offer.”
Grace Chapman, Selby District Visitor Economy Advisory Board Member and Community Engagement Officer of Selby Abbey, said:
“Now, more than ever, is a time for local discovery and the ‘Get To Know Your Own Heart’ residents’ engagement festival will inspire and encourage residents to learn more about their district and explore their own doorstep.”
“We’re very excited to be offering special tower tours for the first time since the pandemic, as part of the festival. It’s a fantastic chance for residents and locals to come along, experience the Abbey - and see it from a whole different perspective.”
