The Selby RUFC under 15s boys rugby tour to Kirkby Lonsdale, Cumbria, took place with funding support from the Central area Community Engagement Forum.
Earlier this year, 44 children and adults took part in the trip. “The tour offered many new experiences, encouraged team spirit, developed rugby skills and gave the team the chance to play tournaments with players of similar ages at Kirkby Lonsdale,” explained Jane Perkins, fundraising co-ordinator for the u15 boys team. “It also gave us the chance to represent Selby and promote our rugby club regionally.”
“Watching how the older Kirkby Lonsdale team players also gave us lots of ideas for how our team can improve in the future.
“The weekend was topped off when we won our match against Stafford – a team that had not been beaten all season."
The Central CEF awarded £500 to the club to support the tour. The rugby club raised the remaining funds needed for the trip through a sponsored park run, cake stalls, raffles and many other fundraising activities.
Chairman of the Central CEF, Cllr Ian Chilvers, commented, "The Central CEF is happy to support activities which help our residents enjoy the outdoors and be active. The community that supports the rugby club have also rallied round to support the tour by contributing to the fundraising efforts of the team and club, which is tremendous to see.”
