Shop local is the message on new banners and flags that are going up on Selby, Sherburn and Tadcaster’s high streets this week.
The new banners and flags, plus window stickers for high street shops and businesses, reflect each town’s individual culture and history.
“This is one of the ways we’re supporting businesses and encouraging people to shop locally. We know many shoppers feel more comfortable shopping in their local high streets than they do visiting larger cities. So we’re capitalising on this and helping to make our high streets more welcoming and attractive,” explained Cllr David Buckle.
“We have a really great range of shops and businesses available in our district who have worked extremely hard to adapt and become covid-secure. Our high streets are at the heart of our communities and I encourage people to shop local, spend local and support local.”
Earlier this year, Selby District Council provided business reopening packs to local businesses which included posters, signs and stickers to be displayed in stores. Social distancing reminders including pavement markings, bollard covers and signs have also been installed in Sherburn, Tadcaster and Selby.
The Council is working with local businesses as part of its long-term town centres revitalisation programme, which involves working together with local stakeholders on a detailed plan to support our town centres.
