Sherburn man prosecuted for fly tipping

A successful prosecution at York Magistrates Court as Selby District Council prosecute a fly tipper.

Anthony Smith, of Sherburn in Elmet, fly tipped a cardboard box and household waste outside the flats at Beechwood Croft, Sherburn in Elmet.

This has cost him;

  • A fine of £40.00 (+ £30.00 victim surcharge)
  • Legal costs of £305.64
  • Total of £375.64

Evidence and witness statements were gathered and as a result of the investigation by Selby District Council, Mr Smith was taken to court, where he pleaded guilty to the offence of fly tipping under section 33(1) of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

Selby District Council officers investigated after being notified of a significant amount of waste discovered in the location. The Council uses a wide range of tools to gather evidence against those responsible for fly tipping and will always take action when evidence is found.
