Selby homes to get an extra HUG from new funding

Loft insulation being rolled out in an attic

Funding has been secured from the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) Local Authority Delivery programme to roll out the Home Upgrade Grant (HUG) in North Yorkshire.

The project is being delivered in partnership with Selby District Council, Better Homes Yorkshire, City of York Council, Eclipse Energy and Heat Insulation, and the funding aims to improve resident’s comfort and fuel bills by improving the energy efficiency of homes in Selby.

Homes will benefit from energy efficiency measures including: cavity wall insulation, draft proofing, loft or attic room insulation.

To qualify for the Home Upgrade Grant (HUG), homeowners or private tenants need to have a total household income of less than £30,000 per year and have a property with an energy performance certificate (EPC) rating of E, F or G and some EPC D rated properties may be eligible.

Cllr Mark Crane, Executive Member for Housing at Selby District Council, said: “This is a significant step forward to improve the EPC ratings of some of our lower EPC rated homes, while lowering energy consumption and residents’ fuel bills.”

“This funding should result in energy efficiency measures being installed which will save in excess of 1,000 tonnes of CO2 over 20 years.”

“I’m urging residents in our district to please check your eligibility and apply as soon as possible.”

Steve Batty, Head of Sustainability for Better Homes Yorkshire, said: “Better Homes Yorkshire was created to help residents across the region pay less for their energy and live in warmer, healthier homes.”

“This new scheme is a great opportunity for people in the area to not only save energy, but also live in a warmer home at a reduced cost to them, so I’d urge anyone who is eligible to take advantage of the offer.”
