The Selby district is taking centre stage in two major cycling races in 2019.
In May, Selby will host a finish for the Tour de Yorkshire. The race will be part of the year-long celebrations in the town to mark the 950th anniversary of Selby Abbey. It’s estimated that last year’s event boosted the regional economy by over £90m.
In September, Tadcaster is to host a race start as the UCI Road World Championships comes to Yorkshire. The championships are the biggest event in the cycling calendar. Riders compete for their countries rather than for individual race teams. It’s the only time this happens outside of the Olympics. Other parts of the Selby district are also included in races during the nine-day event, which is set to attract visitors from across the globe.
This is a fantastic opportunity to show the world our wonderful area. We’ll have lots of support available for people who live in the district and for our businesses too.
