Roadshow announced

A free roadshow has been announced to help local businesses and community groups make the most of the opportunities from the Tour de Yorkshire and Selby 950 celebrations next year.

Welcome to Yorkshire and Selby District Council will co-host the event on Wednesday 9 January 2019 at Selby Abbey.

The session will include a short presentation about the race, detailed information about the route, advice on how to make the most of this world-class event and a Q&A opportunity. There’ll also be information about the plans for the Selby 950 celebrations for the Abbey’s 950th anniversary.

Representatives of Welcome to Yorkshire and Selby District Council will be on hand to give advice about how your business and community can make the most of the opportunity these events offer.

Leader of Selby District Council, Cllr Mark Crane, said: "The Tour de Yorkshire is a first-class sporting spectacle, which we are proud to support.

"Previous events in Tadcaster and Selby have proved extremely popular with residents, visitors, businesses and local communities who all came together to celebrate all that is good about Yorkshire.

"The race helps promote the district to both national and international audiences and we would encourage anyone with an interest to come along to the roadshow and find out how they can contribute in making this year's race the most successful yet.

“We’re planning ahead with this roadshow – ensuring that local businesses and community groups can start making their own plans about how they can get involved. The TDY is just one of the many events next year that will help the town celebrate the 950th anniversary of the founding of our spectacular Abbey.

“2019 is a big year for Selby. There are already plans in place for a number of events but we want Selby 950 to be a community celebration with many different organisations getting involved. This roadshow is a great opportunity to find out how to get involved.”

Sir Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: "The Tour de Yorkshire is synonymous with spectacular racing and huge crowds, and every year it just gets bigger and better.

"One of the special things about the race is the way local businesses and communities come out to support it. These roadshows will not only inspire you with fun ways to do that, they also provide a platform for you to ask any questions you might have, and to find out how everyone can get involved."
