Selby district businesses who've previously missed out on government support could benefit from grants of up to £10,000, as Selby District Council introduces the new Discretionary Business Scheme for small and micro businesses in the area.
The government wants to support as many businesses as possible during this difficult time. They've provided a discretionary fund to all councils to help support their businesses. Selby District Council received £876,750 of funding and has agreed to use it to deliver support to a range of smaller companies.
The grants are designed to support small and micro businesses including those in shared offices and flexible working spaces, regular market traders without business rates assessments, and B&Bs paying Council Tax rather than Business Rates, for example.
The size and nature of the business will determine how much funding each business could receive, with grants ranging from £5,000 to £25,000 in exceptional circumstances where a business has high property costs and its failure would have significant impact on the district.
To be eligible, businesses must have been trading since before 11 March and have fewer than 50 employees.
Leader of Selby District Council, Cllr Mark Crane, said, "This is a very difficult time for businesses across the Selby district. So far we've been supporting businesses through a range of other government grant schemes, as well as delivering business support ourselves and in partnership with the York and North Yorkshire Enterprise Partnership.
"This new scheme will provide small and micro businesses with financial support which they previously haven't received. Applications can be made through our website.
"The administration of this new scheme is a top priority for us and grant payments will be made as soon as possible".
The online application is now closed. The team are now reviewing all applications. This can take up to 10 working days. You will be notified by email if your application has been successful or unsuccessful. If successful, payment of funds will made to the business bank account as soon as possible.
