Selby District Council’s chairman is holding a special concert at Selby Abbey to raise money for charity.
The event, at 7pm on Saturday 14 March, will feature the Leeds College of Music Contemporary Pop Choir and an acclaimed singer, Marina Mae, known for her wartime and vintage shows.
Cllr Don Mackay is organising the event to raise money for two charities close to his heart – Dementia Forward and St Leonard’s Hospice. He has been fundraising for these charities since he became chairman of the council last May and has raised more than £2,500.
He explained, “This is set to be a fantastic evening of entertainment and will raise much needed funds for my chosen charities. I chose Dementia Forward because it supports those suffering from this terrible disease, which strikes indiscriminately.
“As a family we know how important the work that St Leonard’s Hospice provide because they supported us when our daughter Fiona was ill – and this concert takes place two year ago to the day since we lost her.
“The work they do and the support they provide is amazing and I hope a lot of people will come along to this concert to help us raise much needed funds for these charities.”
Tickets are available from Selby Abbey, the Selby Times office or online at www.thelittleboxoffice.com/SelbyDCChairman. Front seat tickets are £15, others are £10. Money raised will be split equally between the two organisations.
