Don’t lose your voice - residents in the Selby district urged to look out for their voter registration details in the post
Local residents are being warned not to lose their voice on matters that affect them by completing their annual canvass form and returning it to Selby District Council as soon as possible.
With district and parish council elections taking place in May 2019, this is an important opportunity for residents to make sure they can take part.
The annual canvass is a legal process that the Council must carry out each year to check who resides at each property and is over 16 years of age. . The Household Enquiry Form (HEF) that will be sent will outline who is currently registered to vote in any given household. Residents will be asked to confirm the details on the form or amend as appropriate if someone needs to be added or remove. The HEF is not a registration form, if someone new has been added, they will be sent a separate registration form or will be able to register online.
Janet Waggott, Selby District Council’s Chief Executive and Electoral Registration Officer said: “It’s important that residents respond as soon as possible, so we can make sure we have the right details on the electoral register for every address in the district. To make sure you are able to have your say at the district and parish council elections taking place next year, simply check the form when it arrives and respond as soon as you can.
“If you’re not currently registered, your name will not appear on the form. If you want to register, you will need to add your name to the form and then go online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote, or we can send you the information in the post. Either way you need to complete the form and send it back to us.”
It is a legal requirement to respond to the form and the Council is encouraging all residents to respond as soon as possible.
