Monday 6 July update

We’ve marked passing 100 days of lockdown with a look back at what we’ve achieved over this time.

Despite lockdown we delivered around 80,000 new wheelie bins to 40,000 homes in the district. Garden waste, refuse and the collections of the new blue and brown wheelie bins continue without interruptions during the pandemic. And we collected 25% more waste than in the same period last year.

We've offered free parking for 17 weeks to support key workers and encourage the safe return to our high streets.

We’ve paid out both the Business Rate Relief and Council Tax Hardship Funds.

We've supported 1,452 businesses through the new small businesses and retail, hospitality and leisure businesses grants. A total of £16,545,000 has been given out.

We've offered 120 memberships for the Federation of Small Businesses and provided 140 business reopening packs.

Through the first phase of our Discretionary Business Grants we've financially helped 50 small or micro businesses. Phase two started last week.

Our trades team continue to deal with emergency repairs - 500 times. They've also refurbished 33 void properties.

We've moved meetings online, following legal and governance guidelines.

Following the contact centre closure our staff continue to help customers - answering 20,508 calls and 4,496 emails.

There have been 2,398 calls to support vulnerable people in the community, made by seven members of staff who were redeployed.

Lifeline called their 700+ customers to check on their wellbeing and support while in lockdown. They continue to call customers and since April have responded to over 100 emergency calls - 92 out-of-hours and 35 during the working day.

The Housing Options Team has supported customers living in temporary accommodation. Neighbourhood Officers continue to move people who’re homeless or in urgent medical need into council properties.

On an average week Community Support Organisations operating in our district:

  • Have 406 contacts from public
  • Deliver 46 prescriptions
  • Deliver 61 shops

The Inspired Selby Facebook page, run by our leisure partners Inspiring health lifestyles, has hosted 46 live classes - which were viewed for 29,468 minutes in total by an average of 46 individuals per class.

Keith, our Community Warden has visited 135 fly-tipping sites. Evidence was found at 34 sites and these are now being investigated.
