The aim of the Policy is to promote the four fundamental Licensing Objectives:
Prevention of Crime and Disorder
Prevention of Public Nuisance
Protection of Children from Harm
In exercising most of their functions under the Gambling Act 2005, licensing authorities must have regard to the licensing objectives as set out in section 1 of the Act. The licensing objectives are:
Preventing gambling from being a source of crime or disorder, being associated with crime or disorder or being used to support crime
Ensuring that gambling is conducted in a fair and open way
Protecting children and other vulnerable persons from being harmed or exploited by gambling
Scrap Metal Dealers Policy
Selby District Council, as a local authority, is responsible for the licensing of scrap metal dealer site licences and scrap metal dealer collectors licences. This policy outlines the requirements of the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 (the Act). It gives guidance to new applicants, existing licence holders and members of the public.
Taxi Licence Policy
Selby District Council, as a local authority, is responsible for the licensing of taxis (i.e. hackney carriages) and private hire vehicles in the district. This policy sets out a standard that we use to inform decisions, and should also be useful for the taxi and private hire trade and the public. Licence holders and applicants will find more guidance on the application process in the appendices to this policy and on the council website.
