Council Garages

Applying for a Council Garage

Garages are let on a 'first come, first served' basis with Council tenants take priority on the waiting list.

Should you wish to be considered for a garage, please complete the online garage application form or the downloadable application form and return to us.

Garages are intended for the use of storage for a motor vehicle only and not any form of goods. 

For council tenants the charge for 2019/20 is £8.50 per week and for private applicant its £10.20 per week - please ensure you are happy with these costs before proceeding with your application. 

Current Selby District Council tenants must have a clear rent account before they will be accepted ono the waiting list or offered a garage.

Paying for a Council garage

Direct Debit

Payments can be made directly from your bank or building society account. Please telephone (01757) 705101 for further details or complete the relevant mandate located in the link below:

Direct Debit payments are easier for you. You know exactly how much you'll be paying each week or month and only the money that's owed will be paid. Direct Debit is the most cost-effective way of managing payments, helping to keep costs down for every one.

Telephone payments

Payments can be made using your debit or credit card on our freephone number 0800 3890170 (24 hours) or by contacting us on (01757) 705101.

In person

Payments using debit and credit card can be made at our customer contact centre.

Ending your garage tenancy

To end your tenancy, you will need to complete a notice to quit (termination form). You must give at least 1 weeks written notice before you want to return the garage. This "notice" time must end on a Sunday and you must return your keys before 12 o’clock midday on the next day (Monday).

Before returning your garage keys, we would expect the garage to be to be in a reletable state otherwise you could incure additional charges; ​ 

    Clear it                                

You must clear ALL personal belongings and rubbish from your garage. If you don’t want it, don’t just leave it or we’ll charge you for clearing it.

Clean it

Have a good clean up and leave it clean and how you would like to find it. In doing this you are helping another person move into their new garage as quickly as possible.

Repair it

If you have broken or damaged anything, you will need to repair it yourself.  If we have to carry out the repair after you have moved out we will charge you for it.

  

   Remove it                           

Unauthorised DIY must be put back to its original condition. don’t just leave it or we’ll charge you to return to original condition.
