This medallion commemorates the cutting of the first ‘sod’ of the Cawood, Wistow and Selby Light Railway on 11July 1896. Mrs Liversedge, the chairman’s wife, performed the ceremony. The line ran for passengers from 1898 to 1930 and closed completely in 1960.
