Clay Pipe

Story:

"My husband found this pipe whilst gardening in Selby. That was a long time ago but we've kept it all this time."

History:

Found perfectly preserved in the ground in Selby, this clay pipe dates from the mid to late nineteenth century. Pipes with detailed designs like this, were often given away to advertise brands of tobacco or local pubs. Intricate iron molds were used to create these pipes but by the beginning of the twentieth century their popularity began to wane in favour of cigarettes.
