Selby District Council offers a choice of travel concessions to residents over 60yrs and Disabled people living in Selby District.

Bus Passes

From April 2008, Concessionary Bus Travel provision has included a National Bus Travel pass. If you are eligible you will be able to get free off-peak travel on all local buses anywhere in England.

Travel Tokens

You may choose £8 of Travel Tokens instead of a pass if you would prefer. If you would like to apply for a Travel Pass (or tokens) please ring Central Admin to request an application form. Once you have completed this and returned it with a passport sized recent photograph, your Travel Pass will be sent to you.

Railcards

The subsidised railcards, to help older and disabled travellers, are now available at our Access Selby and Tadcaster offices. The subsidy scheme, introduced in June 2009, enables people over the age of 60yrs and those registered as disabled to get up to 45% off the price of a railcard, which gives 1/3 off rail fares for journeys across Great Britain. For further details please take a look at our Railcards - Senior & Disabled page.

Frequently Asked Questions

How will the change in age eligibility announced by the Government affect the date on which I qualify for a Travel Concession?

The age of eligibility for concessionary travel will change in line with those changes being made to equalise eligibility for state pension benefits from April 2010. As the pensionable age for women increase from 60 to 65 over the next 10 year period, 2010 to 2020 so too will the age of eligibility for concessionary travel for both men and women. Anyone born after 5 April 1955 will not be eligible for concessionary travel until they reach the age of 65.

How can I work out when I can apply for Concessionary Travel?

Select the link below to the Direct Gov pension age calculator. When working out the date of eligibility for concessionary travel you should select the female gender in all cases regardless of gender. Please note that if you are male this date only relates to eligibility for concessionary travel and not pension entitlement. DirectGov Pension Age Calculator.

Will the change in age eligibility affect Current Pass Holders?

These changes will not affect anyone already in possession of a concessionary pass, only those due to turn 60 on or after 6 April 2010.
