arrowElectoral Registration - Why Should I Register?

If you are not registered, then you cannot vote. If you are registered, then you have a choice about whether to vote or not.

The Electoral Commission have created a short video which promotes the need to register.  Please click here to view the video.

The register of electors is used by credit reference agencies to verify residency of persons applying for credit. It could be more difficult to get credit if you are not on the register.

It is a criminal offence not to complete and return the canvass form, or to provide inaccurate or false information. If you do so you could be liable to a fine of up to £1,000.

The Government uses Selby's electoral register to assess the levels of grants we get. So the more people who register, then the more money we get to pay for services.

The register is also used to call people to jury service.
