A person keeping a breeding establishment for dogs must hold a licence issued by Selby District Council. A breeding establishment is defined as a premises where five or more litters are born in any period of 12 months (a rolling 12 month period).
The licence is renewed annually after an inspection by a member of the Commercial Health team and a veterinary practitioner. They look at:
- Suitability and cleanliness of the accommodation.
- Supplies of food and water.
- Bedding.
- Exercise.
- Prevention of disease.
- Fire prevention, and
- Record keeping.
