Postal Votes to 12,000+ voters in the Selby district have gone out today, most homes will receive them the next day.
If you are a Postal Voter please ensure it gets back to the Returning Officer by the close of poll (10:00pm) on Thursday 15th November.

The midday deadline today (Friday 19th October) for nominations for the Police and Crime Commissioner election came and past with only two candidates in the running for the November 15th Poll.
The two candidates are:
Julia Mulligan - Conservative
Ruth Potter - Labour
A statement of persons nominated will appear here soon.
Homes will now start to receive the awareness booklets containing candidate information.

Remember, remember the 15th of November...
With less than three months to go until the first ever set of Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) elections across England and Wales (excluding London), now is the time to make sure that you're prepared for the first of these polls.
Please be sure you are registered to vote. The Council are currently undertaking its annual electoral registration canvass so please respond if you have not already done so. Those homes that have not responded will, by now, be visited by our canvassers.
The PCC elections are new elections using a voting system most electors will not have used before.
As part of the Electoral Commission's campaign to raise awareness of the elections, a booklet will be sent to all households in the 41 police areas in England and Wales, which contains information on the role of PCCs, how to complete your ballot paper and details of the website and phone number where people can get information on candidates.
This will be supported by a TV campaign and local radio and press activity to raise awareness of the elections, alert people to the booklet that they will be receiving, and provide details of the website and helpline where people can go for further information.
The Electoral Commission's public awareness work launches on 22 October, the same day that people will start to receive booklets.
In September 2011, the Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2011 was passed by parliament that introduced the role of an elected Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) for each of the 41 police force areas in England and Wales outside London.
Each police force area will hold an election on Thursday 15th November 2012, for their first PCC. For the North Yorkshire police force area, Selby District Council will run the election with the following councils:
- City of York Council
- Craven District Council
- Hambleton District Council
- Harrogate District Council
- Richmondshire District Council
- Ryedale District Council
- Scarborough District Council
For each police force area, one council will act as the lead authority to undertake the nominations of candidates and co coordinating of the results. For North Yorkshire, the lead authority is City of York Council, who's usual Returning Officer will be appointed Police Authority Returning Officer (PARO).
Each council's Local Returning Officer will undertake their normal election arrangements for voters.
We will send you a poll card and you will vote at your normal polling station and if you have a postal vote, we will send it directly to you.
If you wish to arrange to vote by post, you must contact us and complete and return an application form by no later than 31st October 2012.
When do police and crime commissioner elections take place?
The first election will take place on Thursday 15 November 2011, and the hours of poll are from 7am to 10pm. Future elections will be every four years; from 2016 onwards they will be held in the month of May.
Who can be a candidate?
Further details about the election process and how to stand will be issued by the Electoral Commission early in June 2012. This will include the details of how to be nominated and the deposit, appointing agents, and campaign spending.

What is Supplementary Voting
PCCs will be elected using the system used to elect mayors - Supplementary Voting System. Under the supplementary vote system, a voter is asked to indicate first and second preferences.
If no candidate has 50 per cent of the first preference votes, the two candidates with the highest number of first preference votes go forward to a second round.
In the second round of counting, ballot papers for the eliminated candidates are checked and any where the voter's second choice was for 1st and 2nd placed candidates are counted and added to their totals. The candidate with the most 1st and 2nd choice votes is the winner.
Registered to vote?
Because of the Election the Annual Canvass for the Register of Electors will begin on 21st June 2012, we ask that households please respond by 19th July to avoid being sent a reminder. Any forms not returned by 17th August will receive a home visit at great cost to your council resources. To guarantee yourself a vote, you should ensure your registration is in place by the 15th October 2012.
If you move during the Annual Canvass, you may still register to vote up to 31st October 2012.
