arrowLocal Plan (formerly referred to as the Local Development Framework (LDF)

The Local Development Framework was the name given to the suite of planning policy documents under the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004.  The Coalition Government has now introduced a new planning system under the Localism Act 2011 that has introduced a number of changes, not least the renaming of the planning system.

Selby District Council has continued to develop planning policies; however we are in a time of transition where due to timing of writing these documents we use some of the old and new systems.  The plans currently in use include:

  1. The Selby District Local Plan (SDLP), which was adopted on 8 February 2005.  Some policies in this plan remain in force for the time being (see schedule on the Local Plan page).
  2. The Selby District Core Strategy (CS), which is the first part of the replacement for the 2005 Local Plan.  This sets out the high level strategic policies for the District for the period 2012 - 2028.  The policies in the Core Strategy replace much of the SDLP policies.
  3. The Local Development Scheme 2013 - 2016 (LDS) sets out the programme for producing the remaining documents which will make up the New Local Plan in Selby District.  The LDS sets out that the Council is progressing a Sites and Policies Local Plan (SAPP) which will deliver the allocations, policies and proposals to deliver the Core Strategy vision.  Upon adoption in 2016 it will replace all of the remaining policies of the SDLP.

The other documents in the current Local Development Scheme include:

Other Planning documents

Details of the manner in which the Council intends to achieve continuous community involvement are set out in a separate document - the Statement of Community Involvement (SCI).

The Council also has a suite of Supplementary Planning Documents (SPD) including Village Design Statements, Developer Contributions, Affordable Housing and other topics.  Click here for more details.
