To assist voters, this section offers the very latest information on what's happening aswell as access to notices, lists of candidates etc. We will provide regular updates and place papers at your disposal to easily download.

Please also see our Frequently Asked Questions - pdf.

Polling takes place on Thursday 05 May 2011 and will be between 07:00 and 22:00 (10pm) at 76 polling stations in 65 assorted village halls, community centres and schools, together with the odd caravan and mobile library van across the district. Of course, as always, postal votes or the appointment of proxies will be available to voters who may be unable to vote in person.

A map locating all the Polling Stations is available here - Elections 2011 Polling Stations.

These two forms of alternative voting, other than at your polling station are jointly referred to as "absent" voting. Information on absent voting can also be found under the Electoral Services area on this website.

What is Alternative Vote?

On Thursday 5 May 2011, there will be a referendum on the voting system you use to elect MPs to the House of Commons. The Local Elections and Referendum document explains the process.

Parish Council Elections

Our 58 Parish Council and 2 Town Councils will also go through the re-election process and although many go through uncontested, where we only receive the number of candidates are there are seats, a few do go to a poll. In which case that poll will also be on May 5th and voters will vote in the polling stations in those parishes that are contested.

Both elections follow the same timetable that commences with the Notice of Elections published no later than Friday 25th March at which time nominations will be made available to those wishing to stand as candidates in the respective elections.

Nomination packs are available from the Elections team here at Selby Council but for parish election we always provide Parish Clerks with a supply of nomination forms for their parishes, so prospective candidates are able to collect papers locally. After the close of nominations at 12:00 Noon on Monday 4th April we will use this service to publish the names and parties of those standing.
