Selby District means business - Greencore

Greencore, a leading international manufacturer of convenience food in the UK & the US is a classic example of the Selby District’s growing and vibrant economy. A crucial part of its UK operation is Greencore Selby, based in Barlby, which forms part of its Grocery Division. The site, once known as Hazlewood Foods was locally known for its pickle production.

Today, the Selby site employs approximately 480 staff in in a variety of factory and office based roles, predominantly from the Selby area whilst also attracting talent from Leeds, Hull, Doncaster, York, Bradford and surrounding areas. Greencore is following in a great Barlby “sauce” tradition with specialised sauces having been made there since 1914 when Fletcher Sauces was founded. HP Foods took over in 1942, followed by Hazlewood Foods in 1982 before Greencore acquired the business in 2001.
