Council success in fly tipping prosecution - Richards

11 April 2012

Illegally dumping a sofa at Kellington has landed a man with court costs of £350, a 12 month community order to carry out 40 hours of unpaid work and £30 towards clean up costs, in a case brought by Selby District Council.

Carl Richards, 26 years old, of Hawthorne Garth, Kellington, dumped a sofa in Church Lane, Kellington in November 2011.

When he appeared at Selby Magistrates Court on Tuesday 10 April Richards pleaded guilty to dumping the sofa.

A spokesman for the Council said, "The Council dealt with 440 incidents of flytipping in the last 12 months at an estimated cost of over £24,000. The Council has a zero tolerance policy on flytipping and will prosecute in all cases where the offence can be proven."
