The machine was introduced in the autumn of last year, and has since been used to clean up public spaces such as bus shelters, public buildings and other areas that have, in the past, suffered from graffiti problems.

April and May have been dedicated as Selby 'Spring Clean' months, as part of the district-wide Spring Clean Scheme, to celebrate extra investment in street scene services.

Deputy Leader of Selby District Council and Community Safety Champion, Cllr. Wally Norton, said:

"This machine can power clean, remove chewing gum and clear footpaths.  Since its introduction last summer, it has helped to keep many public areas across the Selby district clean and tidy.  It helps to tackle anti-social behaviour as well as enhancing the street scene - both of which are key priorities for Selby District Council."

Selby Town Councillor, Cllr. Steve Shaw-Wright, added:

"Although graffiti is not a major problem in Selby, it can still have an affect on local communities and graffiti is a form of anti-social behaviour.  This is why Selby Town and Selby District Councils are working together to invest in cleaning up public areas.  This machine means we can be responsive when there has been a report of graffiti, which we know can be an issue for local residents."
