The Towns Team, consisting of representatives from local communities, will work with Yorkshire Forward to produce proposals for an Urban Renaissance public planning weekend to be held in the autumn.  

The Urban Renaissance programme focuses on developing the built environment to stimulate economic growth and social inclusion, as well as working to improve infrastructure.  From the forthcoming planning event, consultants will draw-up a 25-year 'vision document' for Selby, Sherburn and Tadcaster, focussing on infrastructure and transport, economy and business development, open spaces and cityscape.  

On Monday 12 July, over 120 people from the political, business and community sectors attended a public meeting in Selby about the programme.  The meeting focussed on Yorkshire Forward's commitment to bringing world-class urban designers to the Selby district in the autumn to work on the 25-year vision for the three towns.

Leader of Selby District Council, Mark Crane, said:

"Urban Renaissance offers a unique opportunity for the people of the Selby district to shape the future of the area for themselves, and for their children.  Yorkshire Forward's commitment to Selby, Sherburn and Tadcaster will allow real changes to be made that will positively affect the lives of all those who live and work in the district."
