WLCT's Chief Executive, Stuart Murray, has officially opened the new Profiles Health and Fitness Centre in Selby.
Following the devastating fire at Abbey Leisure Centre in February, Selby District Council gym facilities and fitness classes will now be available from the former Walker's Bingo Club on Portholme Crescent..
Peak membership is available from just £19.99 a month while residents signing up for a 12 month membership can join now and only start payment on 1st August.
A programme of group fitness classes are currently being delivered from Barlby High School and Selby Park and additional classes will be held in the new centre.
Stuart Murray, Chief Executive of WLCT, the organisation that runs leisure services on behalf of Selby District Council, said: "We're extremely proud that we are now in a position to once again to welcome back our customers. "Working with Selby District Council we have re-opened in less than four months following the fire. Feedback from customers so far have been positive with many people saying there's more choice and more space."
Leader of Selby District Council, Mark Crane, said: "We have worked hard behind the scenes with our partners to get these facilities up and running as soon as possible. "It's important to us because we know it's important to our community. "We know a great many residents from right across the district were hugely affected by the closure of Abbey Leisure Centre following the fire."
Over the coming months discussions will continue to decide the best approach to renewing leisure services at the Abbey Leisure Centre site. The Council has already set out its commitment to provide at least equal facilities in the future. The authority and WLCT are now working with insurers to determine the next steps.
