Access Selby officers support flooding response

24 April 2012

Access Selby's Community Officers have been helping residents at Thorpe Willoughby, following flash flooding after heavy rain.

On Monday evening (23 April) Community Officers were involved in a joint effort to protect homes, working alongside Police and Fire and Rescue officers.  A culvert on Fir Tree Lane, Thorpe Willoughby, was unable to cope with the amount of rain water and flooded onto the street.

Around half a dozen homes were affected and Access Selby officers were able to supply emergency sandbags to protect against further flooding.

Access Selby Managing Director, Mark Steward, said, "This is yet another example of the important role our Community Officer team delivers out and about to directly help residents.

"Our flexible approach means we were able to get people on the ground quickly to help the emergency services and, ultimately, help to protect properties from flooding.

"I'd like to thank those staff who were involved, and also thanks to the community for their efforts to help each other too."

Access Selby community officers are back on the scene this morning (Tuesday 24 April) to check with residents whether any further support is needed.
