Selby District Council staff are busy preparing for their move to the new Civic Centre, part of the project that has delivered a new hospital for the town.

The New Selby War Memorial Hospital has now been treating in-patients and out-patients at the Doncaster Road site for a number of weeks and District Council staff will move over to their new civic centre building on Monday 1 August.  However, the Council's customer contact centre at Market Cross, Selby, will remain the place to visit for enquiries about local services.

Anyone wishing to attend council meetings which are open to the public will need to go the new civic centre building from next week.  These meetings will take place in the new council chamber.

Leader of the Council, Councillor Mark Crane said, "This is clean, modern building with facilities that are state-of-the-art.

"Everyone, staff and councillors alike, are extremely excited about the move to the new building and have been working hard to ensure that the transition goes smoothly.  During the move front line services will be unaffected however we do ask that residents bear with us during this major transition."

A major part of preparing for the move has involved scanning archive material - totalling half a million documents.  This supports the Council's move to a paper-free, more efficient way of working.

Councillor Crane added, "Council staff have long been aware of the limitations of the old Civic Centre which has been in a poor state for a long-time.  I'm sure all Council staff will enjoy the environment at the new building and it supports are drive for further efficiencies too.

"We are all looking forward to working in a building that will be at the heart of the community."

The New Selby War Memorial Hospital building now offers a range of local health services, including 24 in-patient beds for intermediate care and rehabilitation, a minor injuries unit, enhanced outpatient services, improved diagnostics services such as digital imaging and ultrasound and children's outpatient services.  This investment has been made possible because of the partnership between the NHS and District Council to deliver these new facilities.

Facilities at the new Civic Centre include a modern Council Chamber, state of the art office facilities and meeting rooms.  In addition, the Civic Centre will offer a wide range of recycling facilities, including for kitchen waste.
