Selby District Council's Annual Report has been published today (Monday 25 July) - to give residents a chance to see how their money has been spent to deliver their services.

The report gives details of the Council's work in the twelve months between April 2010 and March 2011.  It includes a summary of achievements in the areas that were priorities during the year.  These priorities focused on work to keep the district clean and safe, supporting people through the economic recovery, working to revitalise the housing market, improving health and wellbeing, and the Council's commitment to give residents more of a say.

There is information in the report about the Council's work to improve litter collection across the district, work to bring in new investment and support new business opportunities and deliver affordable homes for families.  There are details of the £1.1million investment in facilities at Abbey Leisure Centre and information about the Council's work with the NHS to deliver the brand new community hospital in Selby.

In addition, the report gives an overview of the finances of the Council and includes information about how the authority has continued to make efficiency savings during the year to ensure it is making the most of every taxpayer's pound it receives.

Leader of the Council, Cllr Mark Crane, said, "The publication of our Annual Report each summer is always a time to reflect.  It's been a hugely challenging year as we have faced up to the reductions in funding ahead of us.  But this review of the year demonstrates that whilst this has been going on we've continued to deliver on the issues that matter most to you and the place where you live.

"I'd urge people to take a look, to find out more about what we do and how we do it.  We publish an Annual Report because we want to be open and accountable for the decisions we take - decisions about how we spend your money to deliver your services.

"We've also just launched our new vision for the next four years too.  That's also on our website and it's a chance you for you have a say about the things you'd like us to concentrate on in the future."
