This new approach to the way in which the Council delivers your everyday services is part of the authority's response to the significant reductions in funding from Government.
Access Selby is owned and run by Selby District Council, but by operating at arm's length from the main part of the organisation it can be more flexible in the way it works. Ultimately this means protecting your services and making better use of your money.
This way of working builds on the Council's successful partnership arrangements to deliver street scene and leisure services.
How will it affect me?
On a day-to-day basis it won't. The majority of services you currently receive will continue. You'll still be able to contact the Council in the same way as before. This change enables the Council to make a better use of its resources; essential at a time when it faces a 28% reduction in funding over four years.
Will services change?
As to be expected when faced with such a significant reduction in funding, we've been looking at the way in which we deliver all our services. By changing the way in which we work we can focus our resources more effectively on the most important front line services, to help protect vulnerable people, to bring in new investment to the area and to make sure you receive an efficient and effective revenues and benefits service.
Other key services we deliver are street cleaning and collection of household waste, housing and leisure services.
Will services be run by private companies?
Access Selby is now operating as an arm's length organisation, which means it has more power to make its own decisions about the way it does things, but it is still wholly owned by the Council. Building in greater flexibility means we can use our resources more effectively, so we can continue to deliver your key services despite a significant reduction in funding over the coming years.
Please see our dedicated Access Selby page for further details.
No other local authority is doing what we are doing to protect services and make best use of resources - we're leading the way in local government. |
