Six weeks ago Selby District Council commenced its annual canvass and all households within the district were sent a Household Enquiry Form (HEF). Households who have not responded to the HEFS’s issued will be contacted again shortly and reminded to return the forms as soon as possible.
The HEF outlines who is registered to vote at a specific address, the form is not a registration form. The households who have not responded to the HEF will shortly receive a reminder asking for them to complete and return the form. Please can all households who receive a reminder review the HEF and take the necessary action that is applicable to their circumstances.
If there are no changes residents can respond by calling 0800 197 9871, texting NOCHANGE to 80212 or visiting www.registerbyinternet.com/selby. Each HEF will contain its own security code and residents will need these codes when responding via one of the methods mentioned previously. Alternatively if residents are not able to respond via one of the above methods, they can return the form via post to the Council offices in the pre-paid envelope provided.
If there are changes to be made, for example if someone has recently moved in or out of the household, residents can confirm these changes using their security codes by visiting www.registerbyinternet.com/selby or they can outline changes on the form and return it via the post.
Following the return of the HEF, if there are new residents in the household, they will need to visit http://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote to formally register. Visiting the website is the most simple and effective way to register, however If they are unable to register online, we will send them an Invitation to Register (ITR) form which they will need to complete and return to us.
There is a cost to the Council for having to take these additional steps, so please can those who receive a reminder return their response as soon as possible. Further steps will be taken if a household fails to respond to the reminders and a canvasser will call at the property to chase up a response.
Selby District Council, Chief Executive, Mary Weastell said, “Thank you to everyone who has kindly responded to the household enquiry forms issued. Please can any households that receive a reminder respond to the forms as soon as possible. Taking additional action, issuing reminders and appointing canvassers costs the council, please can those contacted respond to the reminders promptly.”
If you have any queries concerning the process, you can call Selby District Council on 01757 705101 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
