One of our priorities is to make the Selby District a great place to enjoy life. To achieve this we've been looking at issues relating to mental health provision in our district.
We've organised conferences and workshops that bring together health professionals, medical practitioners, voluntary and community groups and service users. These events have been very well attended and have helped us to map out the mental health services already on offer in the district. This also allows us to identify potential gaps in provision of services.
Attendees have included officers from Selby District Council plus representatives from Selby College, Selby Abbey, North Yorkshire County Council, North Yorkshire Youth Commission, Healthwatch North Yorkshire and various sectors of the NHS including Living Well. And representatives from charitable organisations included Carers Count, Mencap, Brighter Futures, York Mind, Citizens Advice and Selby AVS.
Our most recent event looked at issues around accessing services, the referrals process and communications.
Access to information has been raised regularly at our events as a particular issue. We recommend looking at the Selby Advice website - this brings together a wealth of advice and information about the services available, both in Selby and across the district.
It's been suggested a Selby Mental Health Forum would be a positive step forward. If you would like to get involved in future discussions about this idea please email Jenny on firstname.lastname@example.org.
