I Vote...

‘I Vote’ - Celebrating our right to vote – and encouraging others to do so.

To celebrate a centenary of women’s suffrage Selby District Council is launching a series of short films in which councillors, officers and residents from all backgrounds will explain why they vote.

One hundred years on from the Representation of the People Act 1918, we’re sharing ‘I Vote because…’ stories about voting to encourage voter registration. Some areas of the country will hold local elections this year – Selby District Council will not – however we want to use this opportunity to ensure as many people as possible are on the electoral register in preparation for future elections.

Selby District Council’s chief executive and returning officer for elections Janet Waggott explains “I’m proud to share my story for the I Vote project and I’m looking forward to hearing those from others in our district.”

Remember registering to vote is easy and takes just five minutes – www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.
