Dog breeding licences

A person keeping a breeding establishment for dogs must hold a licence issued by Selby District Council. A breeding establishment is defined as a premises where five or more litters are born in any period of 12 months (a rolling 12 month period).

The licence is renewed annually after an inspection by one of our officers and a veterinary practitioner. They look at:

  • Suitability and cleanliness of the accommodation.
  • Supplies of food and water.
  • Bedding.
  • Exercise.
  • Prevention of disease.
  • Fire prevention.
  • Record keeping.
