Community Governance Reviews

The Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act 2007 transferred the responsibility for reviewing parish boundaries to principal authorities, such as Selby District Council. Principal councils were previously responsible only for the electoral arrangements of parishes.

Principal councils, such as Selby District Council, can make changes to parish boundaries, wards and electoral arrangements through a Community Governance Review (CGR). A principal council can choose to undertake a CGR at any time, or can undertake a CGR when requested by either a designated neighbourhood forum or in response to a relevant petition from local government electors.
